23 Sep DIY Clay Facial Mask
Giving yourself a facial at home is an excellent way to relax – and a great way to save money if regular facials aren’t in your budget. This DIY clay mask is easy to make, affordable, and great for a variety of skin issues from stress-related breakouts to dry autumn skin.
The ingredients in this mask are full of skin-loving benefits! For example, bentonite clay is especially good at firming and detoxing the skin, while honey is naturally soothing and cleansing. If you use raw honey, it also has the added benefits of being antibacterial, healing, and smoothing. If you have specific skin issues, such as oily skin, dry skin, or breakouts, adding essential oils with coordinating healing properties will make this mask ideal for your face! This recipe suggests lavender oil, perfect for all skin types and an easy way to add a little extra relaxation into your facial.
- 1 teaspoon bentonite clay
- 1 teaspoon raw honey
- 1 teaspoon water (or more if needed)
- ½ teaspoon each of powdered calendula and chamomile flowers (optional)
- 2 drops lavender essential oil or essential oil of your choice (optional)
Mix bentonite clay with powdered herbs, if using, in a small bowl. Add honey and mix to form a thick paste. Add enough warm water to form a thin paste, and mix in essential oil if using.
To use: Immediately apply to face in circular motions, avoiding eye area and extending to neck if desired. Leave on for 10-15 minutes or until hardened; wash off with a wash cloth soaked in hot water (hot water helps for easy removal, without the need for scrubbing). Pat dry and enjoy your soft, smooth skin!
Note: This mask will stain light colored wash cloths! Use a dark cloth or a cloth you don’t mind staining.
