Summertime seems like a dream – the perfect weather, the best activities, the shedding of all of winter’s skin, hair, and beauty problems.
Wrong! Frizz, sweat, oil, dryness, and more are unfortunate summer woes that need to be dealt with as soon as possible!
Here are a few summer beauty hacks to keep you looking and feeling your best during the hot months:
Exfoliate flaky feet with a potato.
It might sound crazy, but it really works! Cut a potato in half, and coat it in coarse sea salt. Use it to scrub the bottom and sides of your feet for instantly smooth, soft feet, no salon pedicure needed!
Tame a frizzy hairline with a toothbrush.
The heat and humidity can cause flyaways to really get out of hand. The easy fix: spray a toothbrush with hairspray and run it along your hairline, part, and above your ears to get stray hairs back where they belong.
Use Vaseline instead of mascara.
To prevent the inevitable smudging and running of mascara, coat your lashed with Vaseline before hitting the beach or the pool. Your lashes will look voluminous and thick without the hassle of mascara!
Prevent hair color fading with vinegar.
The sun can fade hair color fast, regardless if you are rocking light or dark hair. To keep your color bright, pour ½ cup apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it on your hair. Leave it for 10 minutes and rinse!
Moisturize dry hair with an avocado hair mask.
If your hair just can’t handle the heat, treat it with a hydrating hair mask. Mix one ripe avocado, one egg, one tablespoon honey, and one tablespoon coconut oil in a blender; apply all over your hair from mid-shaft to ends and leave on for 20 minutes before rinsing out. For ultimate moisture, cover your head with a shower cap while you let it soak in.
Treat a dry, itchy scalp with yogurt.
If your scalp is dry and itchy because of sun exposure, try this easy DIY. Crush two aspirin pills and dissolve in one tablespoon water. Mix in two tablespoons Greek yogurt, massage the mixture into your scalp, and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Wash and condition your hair after and enjoy the relief!
Buy a jar of coconut oil.
If you skip all other summer beauty hacks, do not skip this one! Coconut oil had hundreds of uses for every season, and is an essential you need on-hand at all times. For summer, it can be used to moisturize dry skin, condition dry hair, remove make-up, and even has its place in DIY sunscreen recipes!
