30 Jul Sweating and Your Skin
With a heat wave spreading its way across almost the entire country, you may find yourself sweating a bit more than you normally would. Sweat is the body’s natural way to cool itself and can be very beneficial for your skin and your health in general. It’s part of the reason that exercise is so good and people love going to hot yoga. In addition, it’s the reason that aestheticians use steam at the beginning of a facial – to open up pores.
However, the steam used for a facial is a little bit different than when you sweat from exercise or hot yoga. As your pores open up to release sweat, it makes extractions easier for the aesthetician. In a facial, this is followed by exfoliation and cleansing. Leaving sweat on the skin for too long might cause irritation and breakouts, which is why it is important to shower after a workout. It will help remove bacteria and debris.
Even though your sweat is made up of mostly water, it is a way for the body to remove toxins that we are constantly exposed to in our food and environment. So as you workout and move through hot yoga classes you are allowing a natural anti-aging mechanism to kick in to leave your skin healthy and radiant.
