11 Jul What Causes Oily Skin?
There are several possible cause for oily skin. One of which is genetics. It could be just how you are built. Some people have more oily skin than others, and that’s how it will always be.
You could have oily skin due to the overuse or misuse of topical products. Skin will tell us when we need to change our face wash or makeup, by how it reacts. When you scrub too hard, and use too many products, it causes the skin to try to compensate for the loss of water by producing more oil.
Oily skin can also be attributed to seasonal changes. In the colder months and during the winter, skin tends to be dryer and tighter. During the heat however, we tend to sweat much more, leaving behind an oilier skin. Humidity creates more of an atmosphere for oil production as well.
Medications may also be the culprit. If you are taking birth control, or other hormonal type of medications, it can create skin changes and reactions due to the hormones.
Using too much of the wrong product may be causing your skin to create too much oil as well. Again your skin will tell you when it is time to seek other products by how it reacts to your current ones.
It could also be hormonal changes through-out your body. These may be caused from the pituitary gland, pancreas, thyroid, thymus, or ovaries. It could also be caused by stress. Stress can cause an overproduction of hormones, which causes the skin to wreak havoc on itself.
Sun tanning is a big potential cause. It damages the skin, making it not work properly. Oil production will be unnecessary and in large amounts to try and rehydrate the damaged skin.
So, all in all there could be several variables that can create oily skin. They can be environmental, genetic, or chemical related. If you are seeking treatment for your skin and its current oily condition, be sure to consult your physician before trying anything.
