A body scrub is an exfoliating body treatment that is often performed by a licensed esthetician.  The treatment removes dry, dead skin cells and has been shown to help blood and lymph circulation.  The treatment softens the appearance of skin and gives it a healthy glow.

A scrub is made up of a course material such salt, sugar, and even coffee grounds or rice bran.  This material is mixed with essential oils or massage oil.  The scrub is applied to the entire body and is gently rubbed into the skin.  However, this isn’t a massage.

A body scrub can be done alone or as the first step of a body wrap.  Once the esthetician as completely rubbed the body in the scrub, it is removed.  Sometimes the esthetician will use steamed towels or a wet table is used so the client can remain laying down.  Sometimes the client will be asked to move to a standing shower. Once the scrub is completely rinsed and the client is dried off,  oil or lotion is applied.  The skin will feel softer and and look smoother.

While one can easily perform a scrub at home, there isn’t quite the same benefit as having this treatment done by a licensed esthetician.  An esthetician is more likely to spend time and reach places that one wouldn’t be able to reach on their own.
