Fall DIY Pumpkin Mask & Scrub

It’s that time of year already – the leaves are changing colors, the air is chilly, and pumpkins are once again making their way onto doorsteps and into your favorite hot drinks and baked goods. Aside from being a cute Halloween decoration and delicious flavor add-in, pumpkin is also great for your skin! They are loaded with antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, beta-carotene, vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, potassium, and even UV protectors. It makes you think twice before you throw away the seedy gunk left over after carving a jack-o-lantern, doesn’t it? This fall, try some DIY pumpkin face and body treatments to spice up your beauty regimen.

Pumpkin Face Scrub

This facial scrub takes full advantage of all the benefits pumpkin has to offer. Mix a couple tablespoons of pumpkin (cooked and mashed or canned), two tablespoons of plain yogurt, and one tablespoon of ground almonds or oats. Apply all over your face and let sit for several minutes, then gently scrub in circular motions with your fingers; the yogurt and nuts/oats act as a mild exfoliator, and paired with the pumpkin will loosen up dry skin on your face. Wash with warm water for a smooth, fresh complexion.

Pumpkin Face Mask

The harsh fall and winter air can leave your face dull and depleted of moisture. A good facial mask with pumpkin will refresh your skin and leave you with a radiant glow! Just take two tablespoons pumpkin puree, ½ teaspoon honey (great for fighting acne), and ½ teaspoon milk and mix well. Apply the mask all over your face, avoiding the eye area, and let set for 20 minutes. Wash off with a warm washcloth and enjoy your soft, flawless skin.

Pumpkin Body Mask

For smoother, younger-looking skin from head to toe, try a pumpkin body mask. ½ cup pumpkin mixed with ½ cup virgin, cold-pressed coconut oil (which moisturizes, exfoliates, and kills bacteria), and ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon and ta-da! A delicious smelling body mask full of antioxidants that will leave your skin in great condition. Apply generously all over, massage into your skin, and rinse away with warm water after 10 minutes.
