When we experience a sleepless night, it usually shows on our face, particularly around the eyes. This lack of sleep will present itself as dark circles or puffiness under our eyes. In order to appear to be well rested and refreshed there are a few things that you can do.

Dark circles around your eyes are closely linked to genetics. So even if you are sleeping regularly you still might have the appearance of dark circles. When you are tired, your skin tends to look pale, which in turn makes the veins under your eyes more prominent and pronounced.

One thing that you can do is be sure to use an eye cream that contains Vitamin C. Vitamin C has been shown to constrict the blood vessels and if the blood vessels under your eyes are constricted then it won’t appear as though you have dark circles.

When applying your eye cream gently massage the cream under your eyes. This action increases blood flow and eliminates the darkness under your eyes. If that doesn’t work, you can always use a little bit of concealer to cover it up.

A lot of the same advice applies to puffiness under the eyes. Commonly, we hear that using cucumber slices on the eye will reduce puffiness. The seeds in a cucumber are somewhat gelatinous, but a cucumber is usually cold. A combination of these two will make the puffiness go down. However, if you don’t have a cucumber anything cold will work the same way.

Next time you need to look refreshed after a sleepless night, try a few of these tips for dark circles and puffiness and see if it makes a difference.
